Water Spot Furniture

A watermark is caused by water that is trapped below the surface of the lacquer. If the watermark is not to deep this can be removed by light sand and a coat of lacquer.

If the watermark is deeper and cannot be removed without rubbing all the way through to the timber then the alternatives are to build up some color using an airbrush or strip and re-stain the complete surface. Often when a surface has a watermark on it, the surface has already suffered from a lot of usage such as other marks and dents and it may well be time for another coat of lacquer or for the surface to be stripped and re-stained to bring it back to new again.

Another solution to repairing watermarks is with the usage of a special spray that softens the lacquer and allows the water to escape. This method has been used to repair a tabletop that had a watermark equivalent in size to an A3 sheet of paper on the surface. The advantage of using the spray is that you can watch the watermark disappear before your eyes.
